Have you heard...

...that we are in the year 2011? You wouldn't know it, by reading this blog, but about a month ago, we bid farewell to 2010 (the year of potty training, preschool, and princess parties) and joyfully welcomed 2011 (which Steve hopes will become known as the Year of the Boat). We spent New Year's Eve with my college roommates. It was much classier than our former New Year's Eve parties. We replaced the jello shooters and Boone's Farm with red wine and imported beer. There was no deck of cards, no bouncing quarters off the table, no tossing ping pong balls into beer-filled cups. We're mature, classy, grown-up. We ate delicious pasta, all homemade by Erica. We told funny stories about our kids, we laughed about home security systems, and we talked about celebrating our ten year anniversaries. Okay...so we sound kind of old and boring, but it really was fun.

This was Kate's first time staying up until midnight. She made a bag of confetti at school and apparently her class practiced the countdown/confetti toss (which explains why I heard her do it a hundred times before the ball dropped). She was so excited and it was just so fun to watch her. As soon as the ball dropped and the festivities were over, she looked at me and said, "Can I go to bed now? I'm tired." Sweet girl...I'm just proud that she was able to throw her confetti at midnight!

And so, the Year of the Boat 2011 begins...
